The Importance of Cleaning Your Apron
I think it’s safe to say that hospitals are generally known for their sterile and clean work environment. However, what happens when they are spread thin with cleaning duties, or when they repeatedly forget to clean some of their equipment? Sometimes It may not seem like a big deal; however, these neglected actions hold serious ramifications.
According to an article published by AORN, Periop Nursing Team Discovers Ringworm in X-Ray Garments, some of the hospital staff kept receiving numerous complaints regarding how “smelly” and “gross” their X-Ray wearables were. After further investigation of the numerous complaints, they concluded that these garments were carrying the highly contagious fungus, Ringworm. The staff quickly realized how serious this contamination issue was, and they decided that the best thing to do was to address the issue formally.
After bringing awareness to this serious matter, the facility implemented regular cleaning schedules for their lead free aprons, and other wearables. During their routine cleanings they would use Hydrogen Peroxide wipes to ensure that the unwarranted bacteria was removed and taken care of. The Nursing Team now places a high emphasis on “doing the right thing for patient, and staff safety”.
